Our fellow Texans in Beaumont and Port Arthur, mostly spared the worst of Laura, evacuated to Austin but still found a reason to fight about something.
Just after midnight on Thursday, police were called to a large fight on Sixth Street and Brazos Street. It turned out to be two groups of evacuees: one from Beaumont another from Port Arthur.

There's still 42 days remaining before the start of early voting for the November elections, but Greg Abbott is giving SD-30 a head start on replacing Pat Fallon, who replaced John Ratcliffe in TX4 when he joined the Trump administration as DNI. (You may have heard Ratcliffe's name taken in vain over the weekend.)
Six candidates total filed for the #SD30 special election, per SOS. The deadline was 5 p.m.
— Patrick Svitek (@PatrickSvitek) August 28, 2020
- Craig Carter (R)
- Andy Hopper (R)
- Shelley Luther (R)
- Jacob Minter (D)
- Drew Springer (R)
- Christopher Watts (R) #txlege
Luther is the beauty shop owner who defied Greg Abbott and re-opened her salon while the COVID ban was still in effect, drawing headlines, armed supporters, and a brief stint in the pokey. Springer is the Texas House representative for HD68, and the establishment choice to thwart Luther's bid to join the anti-Abbott Caucus in the Texas Senate. The other Republicans -- Carter, Hopper, and Watts -- and Democrat Minter are mentioned in this TexTrib piece.
Expect a runoff, with the D and one of the Rs advancing. The game to watch is whether Dan Patrick -- or acolytes of his that may want to cause trouble for Abbott -- come out publicly for Luther, work behind the scenes, or stay on the sidelines. Activity like this signals the intensity of GOP primary scuffling in 2022, which the Govnuh is keen to avoid but won't shy away from.
If Springer wins the primary or the runoff, there'll be yet another special election to fill his Texas House seat at some point, in December or January.
Socratic Gadfly also blogged about Abbott, Fallon, and Springer and had some prognostications on the SD-30 race.

Regarding the post about people getting sick because they "drank bleach" showing a bottle of Clorox. They always equate chlorine dioxide with Clorox. This is not because the two products are in fact one and the same thing. It is because they want to frighten people away from an effective cure for many things for pennies per dose. It's all a part of the corporate money grab, in which they fleece us of our last cent plus all we can beg through Gofundme. In fact, no one has ever been killed through usage of chlorine dioxide. One man drank an entire bottle to commit suicide, but he lived. If a person uses chlorine dioxide without first learning the correct procedure, it can lead to some uncomfortable results. But it's fro improper use. When one uses this stuff one first "activates" it by adding one drop of citric acid to one drop of chlorine dioxide. You begin taking a single activated drop for a week or two. Then you add one more activated drop at a time. The object is to take these drops eight times per day, spaced one hour apart. The corruption the gas frees inside the body can cause the liver to be over worked if one pushes too fast. At the slightest sign of nausea, one backs off and continues at a much lesser rate, until one is certain they are not going to feel nautious or have diarhea. What I have described is part of the protocol for a certain illness. For Covid-19 there is a different protocol I could send you information on. I have been using this stuff for abot ten or more years, drinking it daily and bathing in it. The persons I was getting it from got together wit some Covid cases and cured them in a short time. They sent a letter to Trump about their success. This is where his people stepped in, preferring TRump look like a fool for advocating bleach and disinfectants. The writers of the letter are currently in jail and I have to buy my chlorine dioxide from Equador now. I don't need for you to post this on your blog. I just wanted to give you a different angle on the bleach news stories.
